Did I Forget to Tell You?

EPISODE 100: HUNDREDTH TIME’S THE CHARM

JAVI: It’s our one hundredth episode.

DEE: Yes it is.

JAVI: Do you know what I’ve done?

DEE: Ordered a cake?

JAVI: Wait. Yes. Did I tell you that?

DEE: Yeah.

JAVI: Damn.

DEE: Do you know what I’ve done, though?

JAVI: Called Name Redacted and made amends?

DEE: Oh my god! Absolutely not! I’m evolved, but I’m not a saint. No, I texted my mom. Obviously this show started with her, and I thought it would be nice if we brought her on again. But she didn’t answer.

JAVI: She didn’t? I’m really sorry to hear that.

DEE: Unfortunately, no. But . . . I also wrote to my dad.

JAVI: What?

DEE: Yeah. I know. It was wild of me. As a refresher, if you’re listening to our show for the first time, I’ve never met my dad. I only know his name because my mom admitted it to me on this very show. Some of you scarily good internet users found him for me. I’m just as good as you guys, but I have no interest in doing that kind of research myself, so I appreciate all of you for sharing your detective gifts. I’ve had all of his information for a while, sitting in a labeled email folder. Never done anything with it. Until last week.

JAVI: I can’t believe you didn’t mention this.

DEE: Did I forget to tell you?

JAVI: Wow. That was well played.

DEE: It is our one hundredth episode, after all. We have to give it everything we’ve got.

JAVI: Did he respond?

DEE: He did! He called me! Asked to meet up with me.

JAVI: Oh my god, Dee. Did you do it?

DEE: No.

JAVI: Why not?

DEE: Because it’s enough for me to have him know I exist. I don’t want to complicate it by having him know me. Or me him. We can be beautiful ideas to each other.

JAVI: Is that really what you want?

DEE: Sure. I mean, honestly, it’s harder to let him in than it is to keep him at a comfortable distance. He can’t hurt me this way.

JAVI: I mean, you changed this man’s whole life.

DEE: Yeah. That’s true.

JAVI: If I have a child out there somewhere—which as far as I know is not scientifically possible, but just in case—please don’t contact me unless you actually want to know me.

DEE: I think I do. Want to know him, that is. It’s scary. You know? Especially since I barely speak to my mom anymore. The idea of another parent letting me down? Another person, really. That’s a lot.

JAVI: It is.

DEE: Welcome to the chaos of my mind!

JAVI: We’re very happy to be here.

DEE: And I’m happy to have you. Stay tuned for the moment I finally shatter these emotional walls like the girl boss I am! Name Redacted better look out!
